Title : Forever falling
Pairing : Dean/Cas
Word Count : 350
Rating: R (mentions of sex but nothing graphic)
Watching those you love destroy themselves is never an easy thing to bear witness to.
Castiel had watched life destroy Dean. Eradicating the compassion and humour that was once so much of the man he had grown to love. The Dean he now knew was harsh and unforgiving, capable of acts of cruelty, that only served to further destroy the man they had both once known.
But still Castiel follows him. Dean is all he knows, all he wants. He always has been. He had followed Dean into hell, fighting furiously to save the soul, that even now flutters beneath his fingertips, desperate for release from the darkness and pain confining it. He has followed every decision, right and wrong that Dean has made over the last five years, even those that ripped apart his own soul, leaving him lost and bereft.
He had told Dean, hell he had told everyone, that he had lost his grace when the angels left. But he had felt it going far sooner. With each person they had sacrificed for the greater good, each soul that been lost, each life that had been ended by his own hands. Even the demons he had assisted in torturing. They had all leeched chunks of his grace, his soul, piece by piece.
Until finally, one day there had been nothing left. But still he followed, hopelessly, blindly. His nights spent with Dean, trading harsh jagged kisses and rough sex, pressed up against a wall, on a bed with coarse sheets, in the back of the car that has fallen to ruin along with their souls. Days spent alone with the bright spill of blood under his fingers, the stench of sulphur in his throat, as they all fought an unending war.
Before long, he even stopped feeling sorrow or guilt over the lives that had passed under his hands. Dean gave the orders, Castiel followed. It was as simple and easy as it was unforgivable.
He had raised Dean Winchester from hell, it was only fitting that he follow him back down.
