I have written 658 of 20,000 words.
I am now 3.29% done!
I am completely stuck with one scene in Choices Chapter three, it has been bugging me for weeks, and I keep telling myself to let it lie as it is, but just not happy :(
Now for the actual point of my post. Kimmi and I have started watching SPN from the beginning. So much fun, Sam looks so young, Dean and Sam are still Dean’n’Sam, There is Daddy Winchester droolage, anyways sidetracked much. Watching these episodes, along with a conversation with autumn_lilacs got me thinking, where do you want it to end? Under the cut, as it is long, rambly with mentions of Buffy, Angel, Harry Potter, Charmed and Supernatural.
As a massive Buffy/Angel fan. I adored the ending of both shows, I know I'm probably in the minority with Angel at least, but I liked that I didn’t have all the lose ends tied up, that Buffy and Angel didn't ride off into the sunset to make lots of vampire babies and had a big triple wedding with Anya/Xander and Willow Kennedy (cos there is NO way Willow stayed with Kennedy. etc
If they had given me that ending I would have felt let down, cheated almost. I loved Buffy/Angels cookie dough conversation, because she was too young, and she had never been out of a relationship, I loved that Sunnydale was eaten , as much as I mourned her, I'm glad Anya died, because it was a war between good and evil, and in those types of wars, people die even those you love, it can't be helped and it cant be stopped.
As for Angel, the last season of angel will go down in history with me as the best ever (except for maybe Season 1) and yes they did end it on a cliffhanger, and we lost Fred, and Wes, and Lorne lost his spirit (and as I haven't read all of the comic, I have no idea who else died) but in spite of all that, the ending felt real.
In both shows, we were left with people who were scarred, damaged, they went down fighting. They had all fought a bitter war, some lost their lives, some an eye :) *pets poor Xander* they had been changed forever, and it wasn't an end but a continuation, we were left with loose ends, but of the good kind, the kind that make us (well me) wonder even to this day. Did B/A ever get together? Did Dawn and Xander hook up? did Faith dump the annoying Headmaster, did Lorne ever come back to his buddies etc. Then you take Harry Potter, Now I Love Harry Potter with all the passion I have in my heart, I adore the books, the characters and I would adopt Harry in a second :) but the ending of Deathly Hallows, the Epilogue? pissed me off good and proper.
After I read it I wanted to go back and unread it, it made me want to cry. I know it's JKR's world and that she had the right to end it however she sees fit, but NO, just No.
Everything was tied up in a neat little bundle. Harry married the little Weasley sister (who also was the first real g/f he ever had), Hermione married Ron despite neither of them really getting a chance to be with anyone else but each other and apparently this all happened fairly quickly after the war, where they went on to have a multitude of babies. Everything was tied up too neatly (although I did love seeing Harry as a dad, and little Albus FTW).
But it was too neat, where was everyone chance to grieve for those who were lost? where was Harry's chance, after spending his entire life either being sat on by his family or surviving murder attempts at the hands of a raging sociopath to just be Harry.
Now perhaps this is because at the end of the day, after all is said and done HP is a children’s story and so she wanted to give the kids some happy ever after. But me, I prefer some more depth with my ending.
This leads me to the actual point of this ramble. Where do you want spn to end (I know none of us actually want it to end) but when it does. Do you want it tied up in a nice bundle, with Dean and Sam settled with families and kids, showing you the future (ala Charmed) or do you want some resolutions but some loose ends too (ala Buffy/Angel)
I personally would have Dean sail off into the sunset with Castiel, but don’t see it happening :)
But in all seriousness, for me, I want the show to end realistically. I don’t want either of the brothers to die (there has been enough of that you hear Kripke), I want them to be together, really together,Sam and Dean brothers against the world together with the big evil banished and the possibility of a normal life to come and I do want them to settle down with the girl/guy :) of their dreams, eventually. But I don’t want it all tied up in a neat little bundle. I don’t want Dean finding out Ben is really his, and settling down with Lisa and making 2.4 kids in the last ep, whilst Sam’s eye is caught by the girl who we all know will now be the love of his life. That kind of ending would disappoint me, I want it the way the rest of the show has been, funny, edgy, and real. Not some happy ever after.
So over to you guys, how do you see it ending, or how do you want it to end?

Date: 2009-02-17 12:13 pm (UTC)As for the ending of SPN, I'm open to all sorts. Whenever I envision one though, Sam always dies and he has a baby and Dean has to take care of it :p
(btw, you should watch it with changing the font when you post. Doesn't work all that well with some people's flists)

Date: 2009-02-17 04:50 pm (UTC)I sympathize with you difficulty with "Choices" since I am having the same difficulty, as you know. Anything I can do to help, just let me know.
Not knowing the show, I can't say how I want it, specificly, to end. However, I do like a show that ties up its lose ends, as long as they spend more than an episode or two to do it. I don't mind open-endings either, as long as it's not a cliff-hanger (yeah, I wasn't thrilled with the end of Angel), more like a hope for better things in the future. Just my two cents worth.

Date: 2009-02-17 07:56 pm (UTC)See I liked the end of Angel, he went out fighting!!! and we could all decide who lived, who died etc, wherehas Harry Potter wrapped thingsup in a nice neat little bow and said this is it, this is how it ends, deal with it :(
Amy is awesome, and her fic is immense. I have yet to read anything of hers that I haven't adored :). Her writing style is wonderful, very descriptive and evocative. Her other Gary story can be found here

She tends to deal with a lot of OC's who so far have ROCKED and I don't like OC's :)

Date: 2009-02-18 04:07 am (UTC)I always preferred "Buffy," to "Angel" so I haven't rewatched it in a while. I did have trouble with the HP ending, I wouldn't have minded having it more open-ended.
Thanks for the link. I'll check it out soon.

Date: 2009-02-17 06:21 pm (UTC)Good job on your BigBang progress. You are 658 words ahead of me :P
I try not to spend alot of time envisioning the end of the show. For one, I don't want to pysch myself up for something and feel a let down when it doesn't end the way that I expected it to. I suppose that I'd like to see it a little open ended, so we can still use some imagination about what the boys are up to once the creditr roll. (Just no evol cliffhangers, I hope.)
