veritas_st 's fault, this came about during one of our prompt games, and went from a 200 word prompt answer to 3,100 words, yeah *heads desk* as always feedback is ♥ love ♥
It took Justin a few days to realise something was wrong, to notice that something had shifted, moved within their relationship.
It had started with the kissing or lack thereof. They still had sex, still touched, sucked, licked fucked. But every time Justin went to kiss Brian, he turned his head away, distracting Justin with the hot wet dirtiness of his tongue invading as many places as it could. After that there had been the curfew, two nights in a row, Brian came home late, first by ten minutes, the next night by almost an hour. On each occasion Justin had bit his tongue, hoping that it was just one of Brian’s phases, something that would be gone as quick as it had begun. That lasted until today, two days after the curfew infringement, all ideas of keeping quiet went out the window as he walked into the loft and found Brian, in their house, in their bed, with the guy Justin had picked up at Daphne’s party.
Justin waited in silence, his teeth biting down on his tongue so hard he tasted the coppery saltiness of blood as they finished. Putting the groceries buy he tried to ignore the sounds coming from halfway across the room. As he finally heard the rustling and movement that heralded they had finished, he turned round. Watching in silence as the kid, Joshua, Josh, Joe, whatever the fuck his name was pulled on his clothes. Justin watched in silence, trying not to glare as he headed towards the door with a satisfied smirk on his face, look like the kid learned faster than he had thought he would, and to think he had actually felt bad about the way he had left things.
For half a minute he almost considered just ignoring it, as much as it might hurt, and fuck did it hurt, they had no rules about not having people at the loft, Justin would never do it, but hey it wasn't his loft. But the parting shot Joshua threw over his shoulder made any ideas of ignoring it impossible.
"See you later Bri, same time tomorrow? See if we can make it third times a charm? "
Justin swore as the words filtered through his brain. For the first time in his life he actually understood the meaning of the words ‘see red’. His sight was fuzzy, the world looked like it had an almost orange tint, and he wanted nothing more right now than to just hurt someone.
"So what the fuck was that all about?" Justin hated himself for the way the words slipped out, broken, angry, hurt but he couldn't help himself. He kept thinking that things had changed, that Brian had changed, that they actually had a chance to build something here and then Brian would go and pull a stunt like this.
"What is what all about?" Brian replied casually, standing up and wiping himself down with a towel. "I'm going for a shower, you fancy joining me Sunshine?"
"Are you kidding me?" Justin exclaimed. “You think I’m coming in there with you after what you've just done?"
"What did I do?" Brian asked with a smirk, his eyes widening with faux innocence.
"You know exactly what you fucking did," Justin replied growing angrier by the second. "Forget the screwed up fuck upness of you screwing my leftovers, there is also the fact that you fucked him twice. We had rules Brian, you remember that? Rules that you seem to be conveniently forgetting right now."
"Oh I didn’t forget them Sunshine," Brian replied. "I'm more than aware of what the rules are."
"Great," Justin answered angrily. "I don’t know what’s worse, ignorance or you deliberately throwing your total contempt for them in my face. You want to explain to me why I mean so fucking little to you, that you have spent the last two days breaking each and every one." Justin's voice cracked on the last word and Brian's face almost seemed to soften for a second, something Justin put down as a trick of the light at Brian’s next words.
"I didn't think we were doing that shit anymore," Brian replied simply
"And what the fuck would make you think that?" Justin asked, almost bewildered. Brian's calm demeanour was taking the fire out of Justin's word, replacing angry with confused. Also the fact that Brian was still standing there naked wasn't doing much to help keep Justin's mind on topic.
"You broke them," Brian answered simply, it would almost seem casual if it wasn’t for the fact that Brian was refusing to look him in the eyes. For the first time, Justin had a glimpse behind the clam. Brian may look as if he hadn’t a care in the world right, but his words, however simple or plainly stated had an undercurrent of anger in them.
Finally Justin started to understand, this wasn’t about breaking the rules, this was revenge, revenge on Justin for his own rules infringement. Justin always knew he had it bad, but it occurred to him suddenly that he was completely fucked when rather than be angry or even disgusted at Brian’s tactics, his heart rose sharply and swelled at the thought that Brian cared enough to want to hurt him back.
Justin had figured out over the last year or so that he had a few things that kept him ahead of the game when it came to Brian's other conquests, his ass and smile being two primary factors, the third one being the fact that he knew that Brian liked to be kept on his toes. Brian liked the unexpected, liked to not know every twist and turn in the road. Justin decided quickly that the best way to diffuse this situation was to work that to his advantage.
"We're not?" Justin’s question came as more of a statement. "Ok good to know, might have let me know beforehand." he finished before heading towards the shower.
He knew he had played it right when Brian followed his brow wrinkled in confusion. "Where are you going?"
Justin turned round, as he started to unbutton his shirt. "You said you wanted a shower, I thought I might join you." Justin slipped his shirt and t shirt off and switched the shower on.
Slipping his arms around Brian's neck Justin distracted him from whatever he was about to say by slowly working his way up Brian’s neck with tongue teeth and lips. When their lips finally met Justin couldn't stop the sigh of relief he made against Brian's lips as not only did Brian allow him to kiss him, he also tasted only of Brian. It was in that moment Justin forgot all about revenge or games, or anything else, he knew why Brian had done what he had, understood it completely, all of the rules each and every one of them, none of them mattered more than this, this was theirs.
The kiss seemed to be the trick to getting Brian on board, and Justin gasped as he was pushed fully into the shower, denims still on. As Brian's leg slipped between his own, and his mouth became more demanding, the sensible part of Justin, the part that liked getting laid told him to keep his mouth shut, and not push things. But Justin had never been very good at sensible.
"So, now that there no rules anymore, I take it you have no problem with me giving Josh a call." Justin asked with a smile. He had been prepared for a reaction, had been hoping for it actually, the small thrill of knowing Brian was jealous of him just one more thing he could file away and cherish. What he hadn't been prepared for was Brian pushing him away with a growl and storming out the shower.
Jealousy was one thing but this was Brian Kinney they were talking about, every decision he ever made was made with his dick and he had never, ever walked away from sex with Justin before. Realising that this thing went deeper than he thought, Justin turned the shower off, grabbed a towel and headed out into the main room.
Justin watched in silence as Brian pulled on some jeans, leaving them unbuttoned and padding over barefoot to the kitchen bar. The sight of Brian’s ass in the soft denim, next to still wet golden skin did nothing to help alleviate Justin’s erection that was now pressing uncomfortably against wet denim. All trace of the anger Brian had displayed moments ago was gone, instead he was viewing Justin with a a calm detachment.
"Brian?" Justin headed over, deciding confronting this thing head on was the only way they were going to move past this.
"Hmmm," Brian murmured in reply as he poured a coffee, his eyes glancing over the paper on the counter.
"Bri we need to talk."
"What about," Brian asked casually as he took a sip of coffee. "You want one?" Brian asked nodding towards the coffee.
"No, thanks. Look Brian about Josh,” Brian didn't look up from his paper but his hand did tighten on his coffee cup, it was a small movement, almost reflexive movement and left his knuckles almost white in stark relief against the black mug.
"What about him?" Brian asked still not looking up from the paper.
"I didn’t mean what I said in there," Justin began.
"I did," Brian interjected. "You know what, you are a kid Sunshine, you shouldn't be tied down with rules, so feel free to go get your little twink or whoever else takes your fancy and fuck their brains out. And I'll feel free to do the same."
"Brian, no."
"No what?" Brian asked putting the coffee cup down and turning to face Justin for the first time. "No you can't, no I can't? Look I’m telling you, that you can, and I'm also telling you I will. No more rules."
"So you don't care if I bring guys back here?"
"No."
"You don't care if I screw as many guys as I want, even if it the same guy?"
"No"
"You don't care if I stay out all night, no word, no apology nothing."
"For fucks sake No," Brian almost shouted.
"What about kissing? Am I allowed to do that," Justin took the silence as a chance to continue. "You don't care who I fuck, we've established that, but do you care who I kiss. Do you care if they stay after wards? Do you care if I stay there? Do you care if I go to sleep, wrapped up beside them. Do you care if they fuck me. Justin jumped as Brian lifted the coffee mug and thre it against the wall. The force of the impact shattering it instantly.
"What does it matter, you're going to do it anyway,” Brian shouted, his face now mere inches from Justin’s face. “At least this way I'm not making a dick out of myself for following rules you have no intention of following,” he continued. “So yes, go get your little Josh, although personally I don't see what is so special about the silly little twink. He wasn't even that good of a lay."
"He was good enough for you to go back for more," Justin retorted.
"Only to try and figure out what made the kid so fucking special."
"Nothing," Justin replied exasperated. "There is nothing, he is nothing, he was a fuck, nothing more."
"You kissed him," Brian exploded the dam finally breaking. "You broke the rules, your rules for him”
"Brian..."
"No, you know what Sunshine, just leave it." Brian all but spat the words out before heading to the bed and throwing a T Shirt on and heading towards the door, slipping into shoes on the way.
"Look running away from this isn't going to help anything," Justin replied, trying hard to keep control of his temper, at the end of the day everything Brian had said was true. He had imposed these rules and then broke them, without a thought of what that would do. "Look Bri I kissed him because..."
Brian spinned and stopped causing Justin to almost bump into him.
"I. Don't. Want. to. Know." each word was spat out, the anger evident in Brian's voice. "Look I am not running away I'm going out, and before you fucking ask, no I don't want you to come with me."
With that parting shot Brian stormed from out the loft leaving Justin standing. Part of Justin was arguing that if he just left it alone, this would fade. Brian wouldn't, couldn’t stay this angry forever. But he knew, deep down he knew he had to try and fix this. He knew what Brian's trust issues were like. Had known from the beginning what he was taking on, and then he had spent all that time pushing and prodding and forcing concession after concession out of him. Then when Brian had finally capitulated Justin had broken his trust.
He had created this mess, this was his screw up and he had to fix it.

As usual it took Justin a couple of minutes to acclimatise to Babylon, the sound of dance music and smell of sweat, alcohol and sex always caught him by surprise at first.
After saying a quick hello to Emmet who seemed to be leaving with a biker with a pink leather fetish, he headed up to the balcony, to look for Brian. It didn't take him too long to hone in him, his instincts and nerve endings as usual seeming to hone in on exactly where Brian Kinney was.
His stomach jumped as he looked over the guy he was with, it wasn’t Josh at least, and he wasn’t kissing the guy but Justin knew for a fact that Brian had been with this guy before. He had seen them himself, in the back room less than two weeks ago. It looked like Brian wasn't through punishing Justin. He had two choices here, let Brian get his revenge until he hopefully got sick of the games, or head down there and make Brian see that he was sorry.
It didn’t take more than a couple of seconds for him to make his decision. Heading downstairs he made a beeline for the couple who looked dangerously close to be heading towards the back room. Walking up to them, he saw the moment Brian spotted him, his eyes guarded and assessing. The trick turned towards Justin and started to smile as he thought for a second he was getting even luckier. The frown Brian set the guys way buoyed Justin a little. He had to keep reminding himself that Brian cared, that this was only an issue in the first place because Brian cared.
"Fuck off." Justin stated to the guy clearly and simply, stepping in front of the guy, putting himself in Brian’s eyesight and dismissing the guy in one move. He knew he was taking a risk that Brian could easily turn round and leave with the guy, but he didn't, he let the guy leave and stood staring at Justin, waiting to see what was coming next and Justin felt his confidence grow little by little.
"I kissed him because I felt sorry for him," Justin saw Brian get ready to interrupt and cut him off at the pass. "No Bri, listen to me, I have been where he was, I know what it feels like, and I was lucky. I got you, and you made sure it was good and it was right, and when he went to kiss me, I knew if I pulled away, I knew what that would do to him because I've been there, and it wasn't his fault that the guy he had his first time with is in love with someone else so I let him kiss me. He came after me you know."
Justin saw Brian's eyes widen slightly and he wondered for half a minute how he and Josh had even met. But he quickly decided it didn't matter.
"I sent him away, I was cruel and shitty but I didn't care, because I wasn't interested in having him in my life. It made me realise, how lucky I was to have had my first time with you. That through everything I stuck around and you let me stick around. So here's the thing, I'm stupid and sentimental and I am going to screw up, like I did with the kiss. I am going to do things that piss you off and make you mad, and half the time I'm not going to be sorry, although this time I am. And you are going to piss me off, you are going to screw up and screw around and piss me off and we are going to scream and get angry then fuck and make up, cos that is what couples do Brian. But I am also only ever going to want you, I am only ever going to want to come home to you and I want you to come home to me too."
Justin felt a smile grow on his face as a crooked smile appeared on Brian's.
"I'm going to want some things too," Brian stated simply.
"Of course," Justin nodded.
"Every Tuesday night curfew is extended to four."
"Ok," Justin agreed.
"Also I get a blow job every First Thursday of the month, no matter where we are."
Justin’s smile widened to a grin. "Ok"
"And…..you do not kiss anyone else on the mouth but me, Ever," Brian stated, the smile fading and his voice hardening. “That one is non negotiable.”
"Never," Justin swore, his voice soft and firm.
Finally moving a step closer, Brian wrapped his arms around Justin waist and Justin leaned up his lips meeting Brian’s in a soft, hungry kiss.
it was softer than most of their kisses, more about promises and apologies than sex and lust, it was Justin saying sorry and Brian accepting it, it was about both of them realising that a world of no apologies, no excuses, no regrets, no longer applied to them.
“I never want to taste another man on you again Sunshine,” Brian growled the words against Justin lips, and Justin couldn't pretend not to enjoy the slight thrill at the dark possessiveness in his tone.
"Never again," Justin swore, and the last of his nerves disappeared as Brian's body lost the last of its stiffness, and they melded into each other.
As they lost themselves in each other Justin found it hard not to be amazed at the way things could change. Brian might not have said the words yet, but it was clear even to Justin now, that Brian Kinney more than just gave a shit.
