Dipping my toe back in......
Ok, so spent the weekend trawling my old LJ and realised how much I missed fandom. I have met some of the most amazing people EVER within fandom and count some of them as my closest friends now, and thought, no what I'm gonna jump back in.

Quick update on me, currently running an IT company with some great, but also crazy people who may show up from time to time with names changed to protect the innocent. I am working on my MBA, not written anything in a LONG LONG time, but hoping I may again. Currently got some ficlets that I started for my lovely Verity's birthday.

My baby boy is now nine! and still fills my days with light and laughter :)

Fandom wise, I have fallen back in Love with SPN, although I no longer expect great things, it has pretty boys who are pretty and now uses fanfic as storylines so \o/?? I fell in love with Sterek and although TW itself is disappointing me, the pairings doesn't. Rereading Harry Potter and some HP fic. Love Love Love The Good Wife. Still liking Scandal, and fallen in love with Once Upon a time. Random loves that still come to me include BTVS, Angel, Bones, Merlin, QAF, Glee, SGA, Arrow.

Pairings I still love like breathing, McShep, Sterek, Buffy/Angel, Harry/Draco, Superhusbands. Pairings I still like or can still read. Booth/Brennan, Will/Jack, Dean/Cas, J2??

So over to you guys... whats been happening with all of you??

Hello there, here via [personal profile] goodbyebird's post.
We share lots of fandom: Supernatural (though, yes, it's gotten worse and worse, but I just can't stop... :D), Teen Wolf (and yes Sterek and fanworks in general are so much better than the show itself), Harry potter, Once Upon a Time, the Buffyverse, SGA, Arrow (such fun!)...
Also, yay, McShep Superhusbands, Dean/Cas! ♥
Friends? *g*

Hello there ;) yes spn is my brokeback fandom, just cannot quit it !!! Love TW, show is very meh but some of the fanfic has been immense

I'm an HP fan of old, although I am getting more into it again, loved all the old stuff, mistral etc but not read much new. Once upon a time is one of my favs right now especially Cap'n Swan

Buffy is and always will be my first true love (although I did have a long standing thing with X-files)

Still love SGA and MCShep still remains the most canon pairing on that show ;)

Arrow is still a new discovery (was a massive smallville fan) but lots of nice lack of shirt is good. Super husbands is still one of my long standing loves. Goodbye bird keeps trying to drag me down the road of Steve/Bucky but nononono poor tony would cry :)

Friends, definitely :)

You see, the thing about me is that I'm totally multifannish: once I get into a fandom I never let go, so I just keep collecting them... :D
(Though there are cases like with Smallville, where I loved earlier canon and the delicious slash vibes of Clex and Chloe being awesome, and even if I stopped watching mid-series I still consider it one of my fandoms.)
Once Upon a Time is just delightful but I'm afraid I have a deep dislike for Captain Hook right now and my shipping sensibilities tend to lean more towards SwanQueen -one of the few femslash ships I have- though I also love Rumbelle and Snow/Charming and I find OutlawQueen quite cute.
I never got into X-files (though I read some fic) because it was a bit too horror for my taste and I'm easily scared I'm afraid... :D
/Super husbands is still one of my long standing loves. Goodbye bird keeps trying to drag me down the road of Steve/Bucky but nononono poor tony would cry :)/ - The way I see it, Steve and Tony belong to each other in the comics, full stop. (Plus I'm a sucker for all the Civil War angst and how they feel conflicted between doing what they think is right and their love for each other...) But in the movieverse their dynamic is so different, they don't have that decades-long friendship and mutual respect, they seem to have only contempt for each other and that makes me sad. So in the movieverse I prefer to ship Steve/Bucky - because, yes, SebStan is just so cute and because I'm easily swayed by all the angst but mostly because they have the kind of dynamic Steve and Tony have in the comics, I think.

I never got snow queen in the first season, but read more since mid season 2 so can definitely see that.

Yes! The movie doesn't seem to have looked at all at Steve/Tony's relationship in the comic book verse and with that in mind it is hard to see how they will do things like civil war any kind of justice. That storyline broke hearts for so many reasons but the big arc throughout it all is the fact that tony and Steve were pitted against each other. The scene in the mansion of them looking at the pictures talking about how it wasn't supposed too be like that and the end line "it wasn't worth it" totally broke me, and I wanted that emotion on the movie but agree we won't get it as they seem to prefer going. Straight for the tony / Steve dislike each other !!! Funnily enough civil war always makes things topsy turvy in my house. I am a Steve fan, always and forever, I adore Steve Rogers, have always adored him. My son and hubby are iron man fans to the core, but in civil war we flip sides, tony did what he did for the greater good, but mainly to protect his friends and to protect Steve. But they think iron man is wrong :) the post civil war stuff I'd also amazing, tony trying to recreate captain America, his breakdown at the speech, ugh!!!

But although most of my ships are fun and interchangeable, there are a couple. (MCShep, super husbands) where I just don't see them working without each other :)

I have recently read some Bucky/nat stuff I loved though.

Have you read any of scifigrl47's stuff?

endeni: Cap's shield[personal profile] endeni on February 21st, 2015 05:30 pm (UTC)
Yes, "It wasn't worth it" totally broke me too! T_T Definitely one of the most moving moment in comics.
/and with that in mind it is hard to see how they will do things like civil war any kind of justice/ - Indeed.
And I totally took Tony's side during Civil War too. *nods*
Oh, I have such a sweet spot for Bucky/Natasha too! (And Steve/Bucky/Natasha.)
Though generally I'll give every relationship a try if it's written convincingly enough, so I don't have a problem with multishipping.
And I love scifigrl47's stuff! *nods*
Actually I am an obsessive bookmarker of fanworks (my favorite ones are here at my pinboard page) and I can rec you some more stuff if you want. Sterek too, since I saw down below that you where asking for recs - and as it so happens I love reccing things! *g*
BTW, as for the lack of meta have you tried the [community profile] metanews comm, I just love it! *g*

You are totally one of my new favourite people!

I love fic, and recs, especially as the plethora of fic now scares me, the amount of digging you need to do to find a gem!! i'd make a teribble prosperctor so rec away! particuarly around Sterek and superhusbands

Scifigrl is awesome, I adore her Tony/Steve stuff, and love the way she writes Steve. Just the right amount of adorkableness.

Love meta so thanks for metanews, one of the reasons I fell away from fandom is the shift to tumblr/twitter. Both have their advantages and good points but I miss the conversation and the thinkyness of things

I understood Steve's pov in CW and he was far less removed from the war than others, so the idea of any kind of labelling of people in society was a NoNo to him

endeni[personal profile] endeni on February 21st, 2015 07:27 pm (UTC)
/I understood Steve's pov in CW/ - Oh, yes. Cap's side got more support from the readers (and from the authors themselves in some side stories) because rebelling is more romantic and charming, but the superb thing of Civil War is that *each side* was right and wrong at the same time and there just wasn't an easy solution.
In the Italian paperback edition there's a really nice introduction where the Marvel Civil War gets compared to the actual Civil War, with Cap's side fighting to maintain acquired privileges, much like the Confederates, while Tony's side fought to obtain a functioning integration, much like the Union. So fascinating!

/I fell away from fandom is the shift to tumblr/twitter/ - I know, I just can't get the hang of tumblr, such a counter-intuitive platform! - And I know I should get XKit but it doesn't work for Firefox which is my browser of choice for a billion reasons.

Anyway, yay, let me compile you a rec list or two! *g*

How are you finding the toe dipping? For me so much is different (subscribe, grant access, the crazy lack of meta on tumblr) but so much the same (awesome people, awesome works)

Love sterek, just wish the show lived up to the potential, you got any particular favs re Fic or fan works?

I adore the good wife and once upon a time, but not looked at the fandoms at all

Also here from [personal profile] goodbyebird, whom I've been pimping The 100 to, so you know.

I'm a long time Buffy and Stargates fan, and more recently been in The 100 and Teen Wolf. I'm also in the Teen Wolf Sterek camp of being constantly disappointed with the show but in love with the fandom.

Yes she has finally talked me into the 100, watching the first couple of episodes tonight :)

Adore buffy, never watched SG1 but fell inline with SGA.

Sterek is definitely a fandom love as opposed to show love, has so much potential, helps that dylan is bloody brilliant
